Warming my heart…

My daughter, who is 17 has a gluten sensitivity and is dairy intolerant. She loves meal prep and for the past year has taken to making all her own meals. I am very proud of her for taking control of her own health at such a young age. As a mom, it’s a worry that you are doing all you can to make sure you are giving your children the best start in life in every aspect.

I started to teach my children from a young age about Food. Educating them about health topics as this is something I personally am very interested in. As a family, we went off all refined sugar about 4 or 5 years ago and have stayed off it for the most part. I taught my children to read food labels. Then as they got older I taught them how to bake and also how to cook. Both my children also got life skill education from me once a week! We would pick something to learn and together we would do it including making meals. Quiche, cottage pie, spaghetti – just simple, everyday dishes that when they leave home, they have a repertoire to get them started in life.

My daughter began making her own food and sorting out her own daily meals when she was 16, at first, under my supervision, so I could make sure she was eating a balanced, nutritious and well rounded diet. When, I could see she knew exactly what she was doing, I let the reigns go. Now, more than a year later, she is amazing in her food prep. She tells me what ingredients she needs for the week and then she will make her own dinner for the week ahead.

One of this week’s meal orders is made by her. She cooks gluten free and dairy free meals that are big and bold in flavors as well as healthy and satisfying. You won’t be disappointed.

Hello. My name is Bonnie. Welcome to my page. I have been an avid baker for about 20 years. Of those years, seven have been gluten-free baking. I discovered I had a chronic intolerance to gluten and began experimenting with converting my all time favorite recipes into gluten-free ones. I also have developed my own recipe repertoire. I am married and have two children. My husband and son are not gluten intolerant but my daughter is. She has also been the motivation for persevering in creating recipes we both can enjoy. My journey has taught me so much and I know many others can benefit from my experience. My hope is that you will find something you can order that you have missed and longed for being gluten intolerant or celiac. Or perhaps you just want a healthier option as I also offer alternatives to some of my orders such as sugar free, grain free and low carb. I share my experience and story in more detail on my Instagram page. (@bonniesGFbakery) Please feel free to follow me there. Located in Somerset West, Western cape, South Africa. I deliver to the Helderberg basin area which includes Somerset West, Gordans Bay and Strand.
